I feel like Anet just isn't trying on this one. Of course it could be made to work. So don't have an "in game" auction house, instead have an "in client" like the Guild Wars store which is already up and running. I could settle for that. You could take any items that are in your Storage Chest and place them for sale, and when you purchase an item, it goes into your Storage, not a specific character. I fail to see how something like that couldn't be possible.

It is possible, but problably they can't pay it unless they had to charge per transaction.
There were remnants of a failed attempt to create a real Marketplace.
